Abandoned #2 - Medfield State Hospital, MA

#2

Medfield State Hospital is not technically "abandoned"... its just not used (except for a few movies like Shutter Island and The Box.)

It is patrolled by police. You can go there to walk around, but you can't go inside the buildings. You have to check in and check out when you go there. They yell at you if you get too close to the buildings. They patrol in cars every few minutes. My friend and I watched for them, and waited until they left so we could get a closer look at the buildings. We weren't the only ones interested in the buildings. A few people were also there checking doors and windows to find entry points. They had cameras too, so we figured they were there for the same reasons we were.

Through many windows I looked in, I could see peeling paint and vacant halls.

A gate leading to a few other buildings. We could slip through on the sides of the gate to look at the other buildings. The signs seemed very old.

You can't even see the letters on the sign.

This door is labeled '8'

The front of the porch has collapsed.

A very nice sign

I'm pretty sure this is a church. I think the windows were replaced for when they shot Shutter Island.

If you look really close at the windows on the white section of the building, there are still snowflake decorations.

A sign telling you what the building was used for.

We parked right next to this sign...

This was the first building we saw when we got out of our car.  It is now demolished.

A back door that has been boarded to prevent break-ins.

Probably shouldn't touch that.

An informative sign

A fenced in area that must have been used for outdoor activities.

Down the street is a cemetery for the dead. At first the graves were only marked by their inmate numbers, but later on the graves contained names and birth/death dates.
Below you can see the sign for the cemetery and how it was used in the movie Shutter Island that was filmed at the hospital.

What's happening now?
